Tema centrale dell’edizione 2017 sono i dati nella ricerca: un bene prezioso che sempre di più costituisce il vero valore del lavoro scientifico e che, nelle varie sfaccettature e declinazioni, è presente in tutte le discipline con requisiti comuni, peculiarità proprie e necessità emergenti.

Dai Big Data agli open data, dalla condivisione alla conservazione, dai servizi di elaborazione di grandi moli di dati all’Internet of Things: sono tanti gli argomenti affrontati nel corso della tre giorni su innovazione e collaborazione al servizio della ricerca.

Si invitano contributi che abbiano un particolare riferimento a:

• Uso di infrastrutture di rete e servizi per la gestione, condivisione, archiviazione di dati;
• Metodologie e politiche di gestione dati replicabili in ambito multidisciplinare;
• Interoperabilità dei dati e modalità di autenticazione e accesso ai dati.

The EWGT was founded in July 1991 in Cetraro (Italy) during the 7th Euro Summer Institute on Urban Traffic Management. This name was changed during the EURO Conference in Glasgow in July 1994 to Transportation, in order to extend the topics addressed and to involve more people in participation.

EWGT main targets concern providing a forum to share research information and experience, encouraging joint research and the development of both theoretical methods and applications, and promoting cooperation among the many institutions and organisations which are leaders at the national level in the field of transportation, traffic and logistics.

CNR-IBIMET (now CNR-IBE) contributed with the paper: “An integrated low-cost road traffic and air pollution monitoring platform to assess vehicles’ air quality impact in urban areas”

Workshop overview and objectives

According to the Guiding Principles for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable Data – so-called FAIR principles – launched by the Data FAIRport initiative and recently adopted by the European Commission Guidelines on FAIR Data Management in Horizon 2020 the aim of this workshop is to bring new lymph to the political, legal, technical and technological debate around re-use and reproducibility of research data in Italy.

Starting from requirements and concrete experiences of research infrastructures and relying on the results and ongoing activities of specific RDA Working and Interest Groups, this workshop will call to action the coordinators of research infrastructures, individual researchers, funding agencies, research institutions, data scientists, data librarians/curators and computing scientists to identify which of the FAIR guidelines can be effectively supported by the current technology, which national policies are supporting their implementation and what are the challenges still open towards a concrete implementation of the FAIR principles in Italy.

RDA relevance & expected outcomes

Among the solutions for implementing FAIR data management, a key role will be covered by those developed by RDA Working and Interest Groups dealing with data reproducibility, metadata standards, data foundation and implementation of DMP in real scientific scenarios. In particular, the activities performed and the results achieved so far by the following WGs and IGs will be presented, thanks to the active participation of their representatives:

• Data Citation WG
• Metadata Standards Directory WG
• Education and Training on handling of research data IG
• Reproducibility IG
• Structural Biology IG
• Libraries for Research Data IG

The expected outcomes of this event will be a primarily increased awareness among researchers and stakeholders of major Italian Universities on the different aspects that characterise FAIR data management and on the solutions developed in the RDA and in other national and international contexts that can be exploited, either by every single institution or through a coordinated effort, to implement it.

Workshop structure

Two day-workshop with national (Italian) and international speakers. Ample space will be dedicated to panel discussions and active participation from the audience. The workshop will be held in English and Italian

Target Audience

The workshop is dedicated to an Italian audience of researchers, heads of research infrastructures and of computing infrastructures, pro-rectors for research, university research and open access departments, repository managers, and librarians experts in metadata and data curation who are not yet part of RDA community. Italian policymakers will also be a target of this workshop.

La telecamera di rilevamento dei flussi di traffico non memorizza né trasmette alcuna immagine che viene trattenuta nella memoria del dispositivo per il tempo strettamente necessario all’analisi e quindi, subito dopo eliminata.

Questa indagine è parte di una attività di Citizen Science – termine inglese che indica una metodologia di partecipazione attiva dei cittadini alla ricerca – ed è propedeutica sia allo sviluppo di progetti di monitoraggio ambientale urbano sia alla raccolta di suggerimenti da parte dei cittadini per migliorare la ricerca e la conoscenza.

Si ricorda che la compilazione del questionario è assolutamente anonima e richiederà circa 10 minuti.

Once again this year, Livorno will take part in the European Mobility Week, a city-wide initiative taking place from September 16 to 22.

Now in its fourth edition, this much-anticipated environmental campaign is promoted by the European Commission and coordinated in Italy by the Ministry for the Environment, with the aim of raising awareness among citizens about responsible and eco-friendly mobility choices.

The City of Livorno will organize the events in collaboration with several local associations, including FIAB Livorno, WWF’s Pandaciclisti, and the Vivi San Jacopo Association.

A rich calendar of events was presented during the press conference held on Tuesday, September 13, at the City Hall, by Mobility Councillor Giuseppe Vece, together with Alessandro Franchi, President of the Province of Livorno, and representatives from the participating associations, including Luca Di Fonzo (President of FIAB) and Graziella Rossini (Pandaciclisti / CNR-IBIMET).

Throughout the entire week, the Institute of Biometeorology (CNR) will run a low-cost environmental monitoring network, actively engaging citizens to raise their awareness of environmental risks and sustainable practices. Two volunteer technicians from the Institute will travel around the city with the Sensor Web Bike, a bicycle equipped with sensors capable of measuring key air quality indicators such as temperature, humidity, CO₂, and ozone (O₃).

This mobile monitoring system uses the open-source Arduino platform combined with low-cost sensors to collect environmental data, which is transmitted in real time via GPRS and made available online through the SensorWeb HUB / Urban Climate platform.

The main aim of the CSUM is the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of good practices among researchers and practitioners in the domain of urban transportation.

The 1^st CSUM was organized in Volos on 14 December 2012 with the main focus on the green modes of transport. The 2^nd CSUM was also organized in Volos on 5 – 6 May 2014, emphasizing on Public Transport and the use of ITS applications in urban mobility.

• the low-cost platform “AIRQino” for air quality monitoring, developed by Ibimet, and already used in several projects on smart-cities
• the Magenta platform for traffic flow.

Magenta and IBIMET are going to share their monitoring platforms and collect data, in order to investigate the correlation between traffic flows and the concentration of pollutants (CO2, NO2, CO)  in urban environments.

For this purpose, an AIRQino monitoring station has already been installed at Magenta headquarters, where it is also managed the sensor CHEST/TrafficFlow.

The collaboration is at its very early stage and it has already achieved a positive result: the paper “An integrated low-cost road traffic and air pollution monitoring platform for next citizen observatories”, written by IBIMET’s researchers and Magenta’s engineers, has been accepted for presentation at the 3rd Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility to be held in Volos, Greece, on 26-27 May 2016.
